We all have a role in supporting and advancing disability inclusion in the digital world. The purpose of this site is to support all of us in fulfilling that role — those of us who are new to accessibility and those of us who are on a journey to keep learning and growing.
This site is a companion to the book, What Every Engineer Should Know About Digital Accessibility. We, Sarah Horton and David Sloan, are co-authors of that book. And we recognized from the very beginning of that endeavor that our perspective on what all of us should know is limited by our own awareness, knowledge, and skills, and lived experience. That’s why we included in the book a range of perspectives from members of the global accessibility and disability communities. Here we share those community perspectives, as well as excerpts from the book, as a starting point for the Know About Accessibility website.

But that is just a starting point. What all of us should know about accessibility is a rich and diverse body of knowledge, like the tree of life we chose as a visual identity for the book and its themes — a complex system of interdependencies that is always growing and changing. Our goal with this website is to illustrate through shared perspectives and insights that richness, those connections, and foster growth and collaboration.
